The Christmas tree is still up, and temperatures are frigid at best. The Winter garden is flourishihng and yet – it is time to start thinking about ordering your seeds, and planting vegetable seeds indoors, for seedlings for the Spring garden. Growing your own vegetables from seed is very rewarding. Watching them sprout and nurturing them along until they can be set outdoors can be quite special. Don’t get me wrong, I look for the first tomato and pepper transplants of the season with great anticipation, but the vegetables I’ve grown from seed give me a great sense of accomplishment.
Green Corn Project, a non-profit dedicated to bringing gardens and gardening skills to Central Texans in need, offers a two-part Seeds to Starts Workshop, that will give you the information and skills you need to start vegetables from seed, and nurture them indoors until time to plant outdoors in Spring. The first workshop is this Saturday, January 5, 2013, and the requested donation is just $5.00. The seedlings planted in the workshop will go to families receiving gardens this Spring.
