I have done a few posts on a very exciting all locally sourced market in Georgetown – Monument Market. When I first talked about it, the concept was the same, but the location was in the original Monument Cafe Building. The market is open, and is adjacent to the current Monument Market, on the South side of the building. They had their soft opening last week, but I waited until today to go investigate, and I loved what I saw.
The space is very open, airy and light. It overlooks the newly installed garden in back. The produce is arranged on a series of tables.
The produce is marked with the name of the farm it came from, as is the meat and dairy. There was some gorgeous produce.
Today there was fish, crab, oysters, pork, beef and chicken, all fresh in the cooler case. There was milk, cheese and eggs as well. Everything is sourced locally and from many of the farmer’s I’ve been buying my food from for the last few years.
Pattie Meyers, the market manager is doing this right, and taking things slowly for the time being. Look for this gem of a market to expand and grow to include a wider array of items. A little birdy told me that the fabulous jams of Confituras will be arriving soon, and the restaurant has a wonderful new baker whose breads are out of this world.
Head on out to Georgetown, and check out Monument Market then grab a bite next door at the restaurant Monument Cafe, at 500 S. Austin Avenue, Georgetown. The market will be open 7 days a week.
