Morning Sunshine! Summer Garden June 26, 2010

I rarely get to work in my garden in the early morning, because during the week I have to be downtown at 8:00.  This morning was a pleasure, still coolish, for Austin summer, and everyone needed a drink.  Much to my joy, the first thing I notice was this sunflower, attempting to unfurl into full splendor:

The camera kept fogging up in the humidity, so the pictures aren’t very clear, but yellow is the dominate color in my garden this morning, which reminds me of summer sunshine.  I was happy to get a peak at 4 lemon cucumbers nearing maturity under the leaves of the plants:

Very light green skin, with yellow stripes.  Gorgeous and so tasty!

I’m still formulating my plan for the big garden overhaul tomorrow, to prepare for Fall.  I want to plant a wider variety of food crops, since at the moment, I feel kind of tomato/pepper focused.  The purple hull peas are growing like crazy, and malabar spinach looks good, but there are unproductive tomato plants that need to come up, so I’m not wasting water and space on non-productivity.  Lots to think about and plan for, but for now, I’m off to the farmer’s market, then Luling Watermelon Thump, then later to the cool Slow Food Event at 4:00.  Fun stuff and local food.

Have a great day!

Tomato and pepper centric. That about describes my condition.

Can’t wait to hear what you decide on. 🙂
