As I was happy to report several posts ago, two Lemon Cucumbers appeared, seemingly out of nowhere in my garden.  I have not grown this variety before, so I had to do some research to figure out when they were ready to be picked.  This one was, so I plucked it off of the vine.

Lemon Cucumber

As you can see, it looks nothing like a cucumber – and has lemon colored stripes.  I like cucumbers, but I don’t like the tough, bitter skin and always peel it off.  This little gem has tender, non-bitter skin and a wonderful light cucumber flavor.  The word “Lemon” in its title has nothing to do with flavor, just its appearance.  I’m hoping for lots more of these.
